On Tuesday, ESPN Audio released the first of it’s 30 For 30 series on Apple Podcasts. The show, well-known from the television series, has now been transformed into a podcast. Late last year Senior Producer Jody Avirgan mentioned the project in our Podcast Profile interview.

For over a week, the 30 for 30 podcast trailer was enough to keep the show in the top five of all Apple Podcasts on iTunes.  The debut of the actual first episode brought no surprise as it became the overall top podcast by 10AM CST. It doesn’t appear that will change anytime soon.

The first episode of the 30 For 30 podcast is titled “The Trials Of Dan And Dave”.  It’s based on the 1992 Summer Olympics athletes Dan O’Brien and Dave Johnson – decathletes competing for Team USA with a highly hyped ad campaign from Reebok in tow. The show examines that bust and Dan O’Brian’s path to redemption.

When asked about taking the 30 For 30 show to a podcast format, ESPN’s President of global sales Ed Erhardt shared some words.

“The podcast format gets back to something that’s always been really neat, which is how the brain paints vivid pictures from something as simple as the spoken voice and a few musical cues… Audio is at the forefront of a lot of the interesting things that are happening in sports and media.”

The second episode launching July 4th will be titled “Yankees Suck”. Baseball fans take note.
